AWKWARD!!!

Ok, so this last weekend I had the opportunity to go to the Valentine's Dance. The theme was "RED" (lame, right?) I thought it would be fun and well, it was but it was so incredibly AWKWARD!!! Wait... lemme say that a few more times. awkward. Awkward. AWKWARD! (The more I say it the more awkward the word awkward looks) Ok, so now that you understand that it was awkward let me explain. I'll tell you what our plan was and what the awkward-ness was... (AWKWARD!)

Ok, well I sorta thought that maybe Emily liked me or something because I always caught her looking at me in choir which is weird because well nothing like that has ever happened to me like that. But I thought nothing of it and thought I was being weird... anyway, I decided to ask her to the dance, I don't know why, I thought it might be fun. I had no idea who I would ask...

Ok, so on friday, right after musical practice, we all headed over to Josh's Church (the rock one by Home Depot) When we got there we made up names for each other and decided which country we would be from and then participated in the Valentine's Olympics. Emily and I were Mia and Adrian from Sweden. We did a bunch of little events that don't matter to the story just know that it was fun. (It wasn't awkward yet, just so you know) We then played House of Fire which is a great game! I love that game so much but you have to be in a group divisible by four. (I won't go into that right now, but just so you know, it's great) After that we went home.

Ok, so here comes Saturday... hm... So I go to pick Emily up and when I answer the door her mom says "Oh, so YOU'RE Andrew!" In a very odd way I thought it was weird how she said it but I thought nothing of it. Anyway we then went to the Twitchell's home where we were given a menu of things like "Cupid's Arrow" and "Melt my Heart" and stuff like that. We had to number which courses we wanted first, second, third, etc. (up to seven) without knowing what it was we were ordering.
Here was my meal:
1. Celery and Carrot sticks
2. Bread Sticks
3. Salad
4. Rainbow Jello
5. Chicken Alfredo
6. Brownie and Icecream
7. Fancy Drink

It was probably to most amazing luck I've ever had. Oh and then we drew numbers to see what we would be eating our meal with. Some people had ice cream scoops and egg beaters, others had spatulas and whisks, I got tongs and a ladel. It was very fun but Emily had randomly hugged a few too many times for comfort but I felt weird saying something so I didn't. (I didn't really know her by the way, she's very reserved and is just kinda part of the group but I've never really gotten to know her.)

Well, we headed to the dance and in the car she sat incredibly close me the only time she didn't is when I buckled up. (Awkward!) (Oh and by the way I did my very best to not encourage this behavior but I couldn't do anything that made me feel mean... which I probably should have.) When we got to the dance she took it as an opportunity to hug me almost constantly. I had to start getting really creative to get out of her grasp. On the way out of the dance she grabbed my hand! I hadn't held someone's hand before and I wanted my first time to be with someone I actually liked. (So I was like, "AWKWARD!!!!!!!!!" in my head, but I didn't want to be mean and pull my hand away.) I did try to find creative ways of releasing her hand but she would take it as soon as she could again. She leaned on me on the way back to the Twitchell's. I tried a lot to get away from her so I could breathe but she never relented. (Take a hint, woman!)

At the Twitchell's home we played mafia and I tried to explain that this was a game that body contact was discouraged to allow the mafia and dectives the most privacy possible as possible but non the less she still leaned on me and put her head on my shoulder... (By the way I was mafia and we took out everyone systematically and easily. I had everyone on my side. It was amazing. You would have been proud, especially since I had someone almost clinging on to me...)

On the way back to her house she again cuddled up next to me and I tried to be a cold lump of nothing but it didn't matter... I was dreading the doorstep scene. If she tried anything I would have stopped her. There is no WAY I'm letting her do anything more than she already had. Anyway she didn't try anything but seriously... That has got to be the most awkward night of my life...

Oh my! That story was hilarious! I'm sorry, it is no fun going to a romantic dance with someone you don't know very well-especially when they are as clingy as this weirdo! At least you had a fun time with your other friends. he he! "awkward" is spelled funny! :)

Wow, that was flippen hilarious Andrew. Welcome to the holding hands club, even though you didn't want to be in it with this girl. At least she didn't try to lay one on ya on the doorstep. You are a gentleman, too bad it was so awkward.

That is really funny Drew. Sounds like you are just a big teddy bear/push over though. I wonder if there was anyway you could of let her know how you felt without being mean? I'm sure you'll have that figured out, if you ever run into that situation again.
